The two most common causes of diarrhea in dogs are eating junk and parasites. During food&#8217;s transit through the gastrointestinal tract, 80% of the water should be removed from it forming a nice firm stool. If <a href=\"https:\/\/iluvmybeagle.com\/beagle-food\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"485\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">food<\/a> travels through the gut too fast, not enough water can be removed before it hits the colon and you get diarrhea. This is how most diarrhea cases develop in dogs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Eating_Junk\"><\/span>Eating Junk<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is one of the prime culprits of diarrhea in dogs. Dogs seem to eat almost anything, junk, dead animals, strange substances, which all can contribute to diarrhea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Food_Intolerance\"><\/span>Food Intolerance<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Another cause of diarrhea in beagles is food intolerance. Food intolerance is another major source of diarrhea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Intestinal_Parasites\"><\/span>Intestinal Parasites<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>These are a leading cause of diarrhea in dogs. Parasites like roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, threadworms, and giardia all cause diarrhea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Medications\"><\/span>Medications<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Medications<strong> <\/strong>can also cause diarrhea. Antibiotics, aspirin, and some dewormers can cause diarrhea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Stress\"><\/span>Stress<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Stress is also a big cause of diarrhea. Excitement or a strange environment like a vet clinic or a dog show can bring on diarrhea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Chronic_or_Acute_Diarrhea\"><\/span>Chronic or Acute Diarrhea<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Most cases of diarrhea are acute (short) versus chronic (persistent diarrhea). In cases where diarrhea persists over a long time make sure you see your veterinarian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Diarrhea_Treatment\"><\/span>Diarrhea Treatment<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The first step is to withhold <a href=\"https:\/\/iluvmybeagle.com\/foods-to-avoid-feeding-your-beagle\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"496\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">food<\/a> for 24 hours, but still allow them to drink clean fresh water. Almost all cases of acute diarrhea will resolve quickly this way. When you start your beagle back on food, try giving some bland boiled rice and cooked hamburger. Anything easy to get them off to their first meal back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Other treatments that could be tried include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Pepto-Bismol: 0.5 to 1.5ml per pound orally (every 12 hours) <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3uzwfZ5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><strong>Get on Amazon<\/strong><\/a><\/li><li>Kaopectate: 1 to 2 teaspoons per 10 pounds (every 4 hours) <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3wJJ3xu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><strong>Get on Amazon<\/strong><\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Wrapping Up<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Almost all cases of diarrhea in dogs resolved quickly. In cases of persistent diarrhea see your veterinarian.
